MARCH 27th DEMONSTRATION

What did everyone think of the demonstration on Friday? Besides staff and students, we had a few parents, a supportive board member, and our first reporter present (Thank you Michael). A slideshow of our second demonstration will be up soon. Also, be sure to check out the coverage we got on the following link. So far, that blog has 90 comments and counting. The most comments for a blog on that site, for that particular day. Lastly, 721 additional California teachers received pink slips this past week. That brings the total number to 27,886.

I really enjoyed our demo on Friday. I saw a good turn out and it was cool to have the claycord online magazine there to get their pictures. I know there are some people that don't have any idea what is actually happening to our school district. This is to no fault of their own, but I think more parents need to get involved in our Friday demos. From reading the comments on the claycord blog, it is obvious that we have a portion of the population/community that isn't properly informed.
Students were safe during the demo, I even saw some students with their own signs that they brought from home. My students actually know what is going on so when they yell, "Save our School!" they know what it means. I am not saying I am teaching this in my classroom, but I am saying that a lot of El Dorado students do care and are willing to do extra research. They are the generation that has to pick up the pieces after all this craziness so why not be up to date with what is going on.

Pelk-eye,

I really like your last sentence. The awareness must be at all levels.

I can't believe 721 more pink slips were handed out last week. How could they do this?

I'm officially disgusted after reading the comments from the ClayCord site. There were many thoughtful opinions, but it's hard to ignore the people who were openly barfing their ignorance out onto the web causing a chain reaction of mindless yuck. Fingers crossed they aren't old enough to vote and if they are, five bucks they forget to go vote when the day comes.

it is exactly that Julie, "barfing their ignorance". Not one of these Anons has ever been in the classroom. Everyone thinks they can be a teacher so therefore they think they know what is best for teachers. It is obvious on the claycord blog. Peace out

Right on Pelkey....we all want what's best for our students. Having said that, they are "barfing their ignorance' on the Claycord blog but hopefully not before they've "walked in my shoes" : ) Seriously now..we need a YES on Measure D. I can't wait until this Friday. I know the supportive turnout will be even bigger.

It is exciting to watch this movement grow each week!! We have to make sure that momentum does not get lost throughout the weeks. We are standing up and if this stays this large over the weeks - they won't be able to ignore us!!
