POLITICAL SUPPORT

There have been some exciting developments over the past week for our “Support Local Schools” movement…

- Governor Schwarzenegger sent a personalized response to a letter written to him about the situation here in MDUSD. He acknowledged the efforts here and the frustration being felt by school employees.

- Our Friday Demonstration was not only well attended by the staff of EDMS (as always, you rock), but also present were two new supporters (pictured above): Sean Bristol, a De La Salle High School teacher, and Lia Muñoz, a District Representative for Senator Mark DeSaulnier! District Representative Muñoz stood with us and talked to the teachers about the crisis we are facing. She is looking into setting up a time for a few staff, parents, and students of EDMS to deliver letters to law makers in Sacramento. There could also be an opportunity for us to meet Senator Mark DeSaulnier.

Thank you to both of them for joining us on a cold morning to help get the word out that the cuts to our educational system are not okay!

I just looked on the Contra Costa Times website and our very own Tom Henneberry had a letter to the editor published on April 6th. He did a great job - please go check it out and Thank You Tom for the support!!

Hello edms. Are you closer to knowing the date for your Sac trip? You should work with parents to drive their kids up with you.

We expect to get the actual date soon. Thank you for your interest. We are currently working with parents to join us on the Sac trip.

We are excited about going to Sacramento and will let everyone know as soon as we get the date. We also have students that are preparing for a video productions class next year that will be video taping letters from around the school being read. That should start in the next few days - as soon as we get the letters collected from teachers:)

Thank you to everyone who is supporting this movement.

Ms. Munoz and I were in contact today and we are both eager to get a solid date for our trip to Sac. We will be taking around 20 people (teachers, parents, and students) to meet with her and Senator DeSaulnier. This should be a powerful experience for all of us, but I am especially excited to have some of our kids meet and interact with a senator in our state's capital. Thank you SO MUCH Ms. Munoz for this opportunity. It amazes me every time I think about it!

Update to Becka’s post-

I spoke with Senator DeSaulnier’s scheduler today. She penciled in a tentative date of May 22, for Senator DeSaulnier to join us during a Friday demonstration. We should have that confirmed shortly.

Thank you Lynne. Also, thank you Lia, once again!
